Collage gives me a chance to explore the more fetishistic aspects of my work. Each element is a magickal symbol charged with intent and each collage a totem of this intention. Collage gives me a chance to explore symbolic language which is absent from my drawing and painting. It is great fun to search out these symbols and then combine them to create a piece that goes beyond the sum of its parts.
Searching for these symbols takes a long time and I am constantly hunting for fresh images, often not finishing collages for months. The process of creating collages is very different from my drawing and painting. It is more methodical, meditative. In that respect it is a nice outlet from the frenzied outbursts of my painting/drawing processes.
